Grab the kids and the pets and get out of the water - It's Shark Week!
While millions around the world have tuned in for the longest running cable television event in history, we've shifted our attention this week to a different type of shark - the shark inspired Corvette!
The shark infested history of the Corvette might not be as suspenseful as what you'll see on TV, but it's still a story full of inspiration, intrigue and a deep-sea fishing trip.
It all started in 1958 when Bill Mitchell became head of GM styling. Mitchell set out to build a Corvette race car, giving us the Sting Ray. But his drive to define the Corvette of the future also led to additional prototypes: the Mako Shark, the Mako Shark II and the Manta Ray. Much of Mitchell's inspiration came from the mako shark that he caught while fishing in the Bahamas. While the Sting Ray was the only to make it to production, the others are certainly legends in their own right.
And just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, GM released the 2014 Corvette Stingray - another fierce member of the frenzy.
All power and all bite, the competition scatters whenever the Corvette sharks show up to play!
