The vacuum advance control unit on the distributor advances the ignition timing beyond the mechanical advance limits under light to medium throttle settings. When the load on the engine is light or moderate, you can advance the timing to improvefuel economy and throttle response. Once the engine load increases, you must eliminate this "over-advance" condition to produce peak power and prevent detonation ("engine knock"). Stamped B26
