Original 1973-1982 Corvette factory fiberglass panels were SMC (sheet molding compound). SMC is a fiberglass-based compression process that produces a fiberglass body panel that is extremely consistent, durable and strong. SMC panels feature an smooth surface that is gray in color. Due to the nature of the materials; fiberglass repair materials specifically designed for SMC panels must be used with repair, replacing or installing a new SMC panel.
