Did you want to switch your transmission for free? Well, if you ordered a Corvette in 1971, you could choose to replace your 4 speed manual with the Turbo Hydra-Matic 3 speed automatic at no additional charge.
In preparation for new fuel and efficiency requirements, 1971 engines were all detuned in order to operate on lower octane fuels. The base engine was still a small-block 350ci, but it’s power output was reduced to 270 hp. The LS6, a 425 hp 454ci, was available, but less than 200 were ordered, and the cost of the engine itself was over $1,200.
Two colors were unique to the 1971 Corvette: Nevada Silver and Brands Hatch Green. Even though it was only available in 1971, Brands Hatch Green was the second most popular color in ‘71. War Bonnet Yellow was the most popular color.
With the exception of cars with the LS6 engine, ‘71 Corvettes sell for an average of $20,000-$30,000. 21,801 cars were produced, and Chevrolet sold twice as many coupes as it did Convertibles.
