Weatherstrip has a service life of about 10-15 years - after that deterioration begins to set in; rubber becomes dry and cracked and your carpets begin to show the signs of water intrusion. The result is a Corvette that smells like a mildew factory while the moisture slowly destroys your Corvette's interior. Sometimes the issues are more common than deteriorated rubber - such as the early C5 Corvette rear hatch weatherstrip. 1997-1999 Corvette models featured a weatherstrip that allowed water to run into the back of the Corvette - GM's fix was to redesign the weatherstrip in 2000 with a unit that included channels to direct the water in the factory rain gutters. Now you can upgrade your early C5 or replace the factory weatherstrip on 2000 and later models with a new reproduction 1997-2004 Corvette rear hatch front weatherstrip. Hatch removal is required for installation - but once installed your mildew and water intrusion issues will disappear.
