82-84 PCV Valve
The natural rotation of the engine builds internal pressure that must be vented. Early Corvettes used road draft tubes for this ventilation, later models used positive crankcase ventilation or PCV Valve. The PCV valve is connected to a filtered air source and supplies clean air to the crankcase. The PCV valves regulate the amount of air flow, which helps reduce oil consumption. Faulty valves can increase oil leaks via negative pressure AND cause the natural moisture (from condensation) to build up in the crankcase which can greatly reduce engine life.
Check your valve cover grommet when installing a new PCV valve. Cracked, broken or leaking grommets can reduce the proper function of your Corvette's positive crankcase ventilation system.
