"While the urethane bumpers are a great improvement for Corvettes in regard to safety, issues with warping or cracking over time will always plague the C5 Corvette. Urethane, when exposed to prolonged exposure to the sun's harmful rays, will expand and contract, causing the bumper to ripple and eventually crack.
1997-2004 Corvette Flex replacement front bumpers are hand-laid fiberglass made in the USA, and feature a gelcoat surface ready for scuffing, priming, and painting, and are pre-trimmed for all light openings. Flex fiberglass bumpers are 70% more flexible than an ordinary fiberglass bumper and tougher than a urethane bumper. These bumpers have the same structural integrity and hard, smooth, easy-to-sand surface, but are much easier to install because of their flexibility. If a Flex bumper becomes damaged, it can be repaired with any common polyester resins or fillers.
We recommend pre-fitting all fiberglass panels before installation to ensure proper fitment before bodywork and/or painting."

From the factory, fenders are bonded to hood surrounds, inner skirts are bonded to fenders, quarter panels to upper decks, and so on. Because of this type of construction, we highly recommend that all replacement fiberglass be fitted to the individual car before any primer or paint is added.
