New for the 2015 Corvette was the inclusion of MyLink/OnStar and 4G LTE. Also new was the GM-built 8-speed automatic transmission, which rivaled dual-clutch gearboxes from companies like Porsche.
The Performance Data Recorder added video and audio recording equipment in order to monitor and save the driver’s experience and save it to an SD card for viewing outside the car. In addition to track usage, the system also included a valet mode to monitor the vehicle when not being driven by its owner.
The real showstopper for the 2015 model year was the Z06. Available in both coupe and convertible configurations, the Z06 was powered by a supercharged LT4 engine and could be mated to either the 8-speed automatic or 7-speed manual transaxle. It generated 650hp and 650 lb-ft. of torque. 0-60 was 3.3 seconds, and the car achieved more than 1.1g on the skidpad. Many compared the car to a cross between a C6 Z06 and ZR1. Regardless, the 2015 Z06 was GM’s newest supercar.
Total production for the 2015 model year was 34,240 cars. Of this, 8,653 were Z06 cars. Only 11,008 cars were equipped with the seven-speed manual. The remaining cars were equipped with the all-new and super-quick 8-speed automatic. Arctic White and Torch Red were the top colors, and only 47 cars shipped with Suede Dark Grey interior (all 47 were Z06 cars).
