1986 through 1996 Corvettes have specially coded ignition keys. These keys included a resistor for the VATS (Vehicle Anti-theft System). They are often referred to as Passcode keys. The 1986-1996 Corvette used the square GM VATS key for the ignition only.
To determine what resistance or value code of your C4 Corvette's VATS system - take your original key to a GM dealer and they can measure the resistance which will correspond to a particular code. Key resistors can also be tested with a standard OHM meter - use the chart included in our information to determine which OHM rating matches which VATS resistor code. Six cut, single sided key will then be shipped to you and you can have your new VATS key cut to match your C4 Corvette's factory keys.
Since these keys are not readily available it makes sense to have a spare or two just in case your key is lost or misplaced.
